This year, Ralston Intermediate celebrated Lunar New Year! Yee Ying Tong Dragon to Lion Association came to perform for our school. On Friday, January 20, two days before Lunar New Year, students went with their sixth-period class to the basketball courts to watch the lion dance. This is meant to express the different cultures at our school, and to bring in the Lunar New Year. Lion dancing is a traditional practice for this holiday, meant to chase away evil spirits, symbolize good fortune and luck, and bring in prosperity. To celebrate, many wear cultural dresses and give out red envelopes, usually filled with money! By Katie Nguyen
